A Senior Researcher, Mr. Mmatlou Kalaba, says the just concluded 6th edition of African Association of Agricultural Economists (AAE), offers an opportunity for African governments to develop a free trade area.
Kalaba, who is in the University of Pretoria, South Africa and a participant at the summit, said “African government are in the process of developing a free trade area, so the conference is an opportunity to look into the opportunities that free trade agreement will bring,’’ .
Kalaba hinted that such opportunities include development, flow of goods from country to country but most importantly, the focus should be more on small holder traders.
He said the conference is also an opportunity to network with colleagues all over the continent.
Kalaba said that he was at the summit to present papers on happenings on the continent with regards to agricultural developments and his work was mainly in the area of trade.
The researcher and lecturer said he had been a member of the African Association of Agricultural Economists for more than 12 years.
