The embassies of member states of the International Organisation of the Francophonie (Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie, OIF) in Nigeria will celebrate the “Semaine de la Francophonie” (Francophonie week) between the 18th and the 23rd of March 2019.
Making this known at a press briefing held in Abuja, Benoit Billy, the embassy’s Linguistic Attaché, said events ranging from Cinema, Karaoke, language competitions, and dedication to teachers food testing and more would be displayed at the event.
She also revealed that this year’s Francophonie week will feature the launch of new programmes such as two exhibitions, football competition, dedication to teachers, karaoke, food testing and more.
The Francophonie Week celebrates the French Language and different cultures of countries that have the language in common.
The Francophonie, represented by the Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie (OIF), is composed of 88 states who are either members or observers within the organisation.
It is an organization of people spread across 5 continents who have the French language in common, of whom 55% are in Africa.
