Accreditation of voters starts in Umuahi for Governorship polls

Nkwoegwu ward in Umuahia North, Abia State.

The people of Abia are set to start accreditation in Umuahia, the state capital for the Gubernatorial and House of Assembly’s  elections.

Thirty-two candidates from 43 political parties are vying for the Governorship seat in the state.
The frontline candidates are: The sitting Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu who is the flagbearer of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, Uchechukwu Ogah of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Dr Alex Otti of the All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA and Dr Blessing Nwagba of the Social Dmocractic Party, SDP.

For the House of Assembly, they are 353 candidates.

The Commissioner of Environment, Dr Aham Ukoh commended the National Electoral Commission, INEC for bring the materials early enough for the exercise.

He said “the accreditation and voting going on concurrently is a good one… Honestly I commend INEC. This is different from what happened during the presidential election. The materials did not arrive on time but today, INEC has really proven that it can do it so I give kudos to the commission.”

He told Voice of Nigeria that the people want transparency in the exercise and INEC would do it.
The security personnel are also on ground to direct the people and to ensure that there is no form of violence in the area.
