Acting President visits scene of collapsed building

Cyril Okonkwo, Abuja

The Acting President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo has visited the site of a collapsed four-storey building in Jabi, Abuja, which left several trapped.

Professor Osinbajo, accompanied by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Mohammed Musa Bello, arrived the scene on Friday at around 6-30pm Nigerian time.

On-going emergency activities
He went round the collapsed building and inspected the on-going emergency activities to rescue those who might still be trapped in the rubbles.

Speaking to journalists after going round the scene, Professor Osinbajo described the incidence as ‘a very, very unfortunate thing,’ and pointed out that “the most important thing is that we have all of the relief and the safety agencies and the emergency management agencies here.”

He said the whole process of ensuring that those who might be trapped under this collapsed building were rescued was under way.

“As you can see, all of the emergency equipment are here; the earth movers and all of the equipment that are required are here.  I think there is enough for us to expect that they should end at least in our being able to rescue anyone who may still be trapped in this building,” he said.

The Acting President expressed satisfaction at the level of the on-going activities to ensure that the incidence was not worsened by the loss of lives.
