The Federal Ministry of Science and Technology has urged farmers to boost their production, reduce poverty and hunger in the country through innovative methods.
Mr Abayomi Oguntade, a Director in the Bio-Resources Technology Department of the ministry, gave the advice in an interview with the newsmen in Abuja.
He urged farmers in the country to embrace modern farming methods to boost their productivity and income.
According to him, utilising of Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) in the nation would boost farm produce sufficiently to reduce significantly level of hunger Nigerians were facing.
“Technology is needed to determine space, land preparation, and management.
“It is also important tool to ensure that farming becomes a business, and an instrument to add value to our local raw materials,’’ the director said.
Oguntade said that effort ought to be deepened to strategise on food crops processing by making sure foods are available all-year-round.
He said such effort would definitely improve the standards of living in the country if properly harness.
The director insisted that STI has the power to activate and transform any country to a better state.
Oguntade urged the government to intensify efforts in applying technology to address shortage of food and enhance food security in the country.
He, however, urged producers, researchers, policy makers, financiers, agro services providers, innovators, and technologists, among others to synergise towards complementing government’s efforts to feed the nation.
