AFAN wants increased farm inputs to boost agriculture

The Chairman of All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), Jigawa chapter, Alhaji Mai unguwa Jaga, has urged the governments to provide more input for farming to boost agriculture.

Jaga made the call in Dutse.

He pointed out that if the three tiers of government would  provide enough fertilisers and other farm inputs, farmers would grow sufficient for local consumption and for export.

Jaga commended President Muhammadu Buhari for the Federal Government Anchor Borrowers Programme in collaboration with the CBN.

He said that the scheme had touched the lives of farmers positively and urged the president to continue with the initiative to boost agriculture.

“Under the scheme, many of us who were not able to cultivate many hectares but we were able to do because of the scheme.

“I think if the government will continue to assist farmers with loans and other farm inputs, agriculture will still go back to be the mainstay of economy.”

The chairman said that Nigeria has the potential to produce many things that could not only be consumed locally but could also be exported and yield revenue for the country.
