The Bafana Bafana of South Africa were frustrated by visiting Libya as the North Africans left th eMoses Mabhida Stadium, Durban, with a point after a 0-0 draw in their second match of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign.
Th North African were expected to put up a defensive rear guard action with occasional counter-attacks; allowing Bafana to come at them.
And the Mediterranean Knights did not fail in this regard.
Libyan winger Alshadi fired a shot at the Bafana goal which was superbly kept out by Khune at his near post.
Then attacker Anis Saltou hit the upright following a cross that evaded the stunned Bafana defenders.
Next South African keeper Itumeleng Khune had to keep out a shot fired from outside the box by Libyan midfielder Ali Mohammed.
South Africa’s failure to test the Libyan back line in the second half means the North Africans remain on top of their group with four points and a goal difference of plus four.
Bafana Bafana are second with four points and plus two goals difference.
This scenario is not good for Nigeria’s Super Eagles, who occupy third spot with three points and a goal difference of plus one.
It means Nigeria must now beat Libya over two-legs, if they are to ahve any chance of qualification.
The Pirates of Seychelles are bottom with no point and a goal deficit of minus seven.
