Donatus AguEjidike, the Nigeria Pillar of Sports, on Wednesday said he was confident the Falconets would defeat Spain in their quarter-final fixture at the ongoing FIFA Under-20 Women’s World Cup.
Agu-Ejidike, in a statement in Lagos said while he had never doubted the team’s ability, he would only appeal to the players to strive to do the country proud.
The Nigerian under-20 women football team will face their Spanish counterparts on Thursday in the France 2018 quarter-finals.
“I have never doubted the team’s ability, but will like to appeal to them to do the country proud during the match.
“The abilities of our ladies have never been in doubt. And the tough 1-1 draw against China was a testimonial of the determination of the team to go further in the championship.
“It shows that this country is blessed with abundant talents.
“This is why I believe that scoring against Spain in the quarter-finals should not be difficult,’’ Agu-Ejidike said.
The Falconets in their last match drew 1-1 with China to qualify for the quarter-finals, after a loss and a win in their first two games.
The competition is expected to end on Aug. 25 in France.
