Qatari professional footballer Akram Afif has won the AFC Player of the Year at the 2019 AFC annual awards ceremony, which has taken place in Hong Kong.
Afif had a great role in helping Qatar secure their 1st-ever title at the AFC Asian Cup in 2019. He was also an instrumental figure at the AFC Champions League, where he guided Al-Sadd to the semifinals by scoring 5 goals in the competition.
Al-Sadd manager Xavi received the award on behalf of the Qatari striker, who is on international duty.
Meanwhile, Saki Kumagai of Japan won the AFC Women’s player of the Year award. She captured a 4th UEFA Champions League title with French club Lyon and represented her country as captain at the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup in France.
