The Independent National Electoral Commission,INEC, security personnel, voters and the monitors are now set to go in the Osun governorship poll, today, Saturday, September 22.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mr Olusegun Agbaje confirmed that election materials had been distributed to the local government areas in readiness for the election.
“We started distributing the electoral on Thursday morning and we completed in the evening. They have all been moved and they are all at the local government, including smart card readers. They are being watched by security men and nothing can tamper with them.
“We are ready for the election and we want to assure everybody that the election will be credible and security operatives would ensure that it is violence-free as well,” he said.
Agbaje warned against vote selling and buying, saying those caught risk imprisonment of one year or N500,000 fine.
He also said those caught violating the secrecy of their votes may be jailed for six months or fined N100,000 or both.
The Commissioner insisted that only INEC could announce election results and warned the media against running afoul of the law.
He said 1,246,915 PVCs were collected from INEC by registered voters in the State as at Wednesday when collection of the cards for the election ended.
On the part of security, police appeared to have tightened security around the headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission and the entire State to ensure no breach of the law.
The commissioner, who said 1,682,495 voters were registered, warned that those who are yet to collect their PVCs would not be allowed to vote.
