Aminu Achida emerges Sokoto Assembly Speaker

Mr Aminu Achida (APC- Wurno) has emerged the Speaker of the Sokoto state House of Assembly during the first parliamentary setting of the 9th Assembly in Sokoto State North West Nigeria.

Mr Achida emerged after defeating Mr Abdullahi Sidi, APC- Gwadabawa South in a close vote conducted by the 30 members elect under the supervision of the Acting Clark to the Assembly, Mr Abdulrazak Shehu.

Mr Achida who was nominated by Ibrahim Sarki (PDP- Sokoto North II), scored 16 votes to defeat Sidi who was nominated by Honourable Maidawa Kajiji (APC Shagari) who scored 13 votes, while one vote was invalid.

The State Assembly members has elected the Deputy Speaker Mr Abubakar Magaji (PDP- Bodinga North), as the 9th Assembly Deputy Speaker.

Mr Magaji who was nominated by Malami Muhammad (PDP- Sokoto South II), scored 17 votes to defeat Mr Isa Harisu (APC- Kebbe), who was nominated by Abdullahi Zakari (APC- Rabah) and scored 12 votes while one vote was invalid.

In his inaugural address, the new Speaker commends the members for given him the opportunity to serve in that capacity, but also assured them of a better leadership for the overall development of the state.

He promised to create good synergy between the legislators and executives to move the state forward.

The Speaker however congratulated all the members for been part of the Assembly and seek for their cooperation to succeed in their various task ahead.
