The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) said on Tuesday that Anambra residents paid an average of N363.54 per litre of kerosene, the highest average price for purchase of the product in the month of May.

This is contained in a report titled, `National Household Kerosene Price Watch for May, 2019′, released in Abuja by the bureau.

The bureau added that whereas residents of Ebonyi paid N355.00 per litre, their Niger counterparts paid N351.85 for a litre of the same product.

It said states with the lowest average price per litre of the product were Abuja (N291.67), Katsina (N290.67), and Gombe (N265.39).

According to the report, average price per litre paid for kerosene decreased by 0.11 per cent month-on-month and increased by 12.71 per cent year-on-year to N315.91 in May from N316.26 in April 2019.

Similarly it said that the average price per gallon paid by consumers for the product decreased by -0.12 per cent month-on-month and increased by 23.07 per cent year-on-year to N1,210.56 in May from N1,211.99 in April 2019.

The bureau identified the states with the highest average price per gallon of kerosene as Gombe (N1,415.38), Taraba (N1,397.00), and Jigawa (N1,378.57), but listed Bayelsa (N1,040.90), Akwa Ibom (N1,031.25), and Abuja (N1,012.50) as the states with the lowest average price per gallon of the product.

NBS said in arriving at the report, field work was done by more than 700 NBS staff in all states of the federation supported by supervisors who were monitored by internal and external observers.

Fuel prices were collected across all the 774 local government areas across all states and the FCT from over 10,000 respondents and locations.

It said the prices reflected the actual cost households stated they bought the fuel together with the prices reportedly sold by the fuel suppliers.

The average of all these prices was then reported for each state and the average for the country was the average for the state.

It said that its audit team subsequently conducted randomly selected verification of the prices recorded.
