A chieftain of Nigeria’s governing All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State, Bunmi Ojo has been shot dead by unknown assailants.
Sources say he was shot around a football viewing centre on Friday around 8:30pm (local time) in Ado, the state capital.
“He was trailed to a viewing centre along Adebayo road, here in Ado-Ekiti. The match between Leicester and Manchester United was ongoing then…Immediately the killers identified him, they opened fire on him,” the sources said.
The gunmen waited to confirm that he was dead before fleeing the scene.
The deceased was an ally of a former Ekiti Governor, Segun Oni and served as his personal assistant when he was the governor between 2007 and 2010.
Late Ojo was also actively involved in Oni’s 2018 governorship aspiration.
