President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed satisfaction with the way the governing party, the All Progressives Congress APC has resolved the leadership crisis that threatened the existence of the party.

The President made his feelings known on Friday when he officially received the Acting Chairman of the party, Maimala Buni at the Presidential Villa.

Speaking to State House Correspondents soon after he presented the new Acting Chairman to President Buhari, Kebbi State Governor, Atiku Bagudu said the Nigerian leader believes with the resolution of the matter, there will be enough time to focus more on advancing the course of Nigeria.

“He is happy that at last there will be less distraction because the President is conscious of the mandate given to him by Nigerians.  Although he bothers a lot about his party, what dominates his daily action is economy, security, transparency and the progress of Nigeria so he is very happy that these party issues have been resolved,” Bagudu told Journalists.

The Kebbi State Governor said they were in the State House to thank the President for how he played a fatherly role at the APC National Executive Committee meeting leading to an amicable resolution of the challenges that confronted the party.

“This is a thank-you visit to the President, which I have in the delegation, the brand-new chairman of the APC caretaker/extra-ordinary national convention planning committee, the Chairman of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum and my other colleagues.

“Our new Acting Chairman and Governor of Yobe State is a very seasoned administrator and politician.

“We thank the President for all he has been doing for the Progressives family, which culminated with the visionary and momentous resolution of party disputes yesterday. Testimonials, news and commentaries in the media from across the country, shows that the people are all happy with what was done yesterday,” he said.

Leadership Qualities
Bagudu further disclosed that Governors and members of the APC family appreciate the visionary leadership President Buhari is giving the country.

He said: “We are equally here to appreciate all the gains that have been made under President Buhari’s capable, brilliant and visionary leadership. Our country is more food secured, the economy, even though challenged by COVID-19 pandemic and recovering from the 2016 recession, is doing better more than most countries in similar situation.

“Accountability has increased tremendously and we are hearing about security gains on a daily basis in all parts of the country and Nigeria has one of the most robust responses to the coronavirus pandemic, all because of his thoughtful, imaginary and patriotic leadership.”

On reports that some members of the party are aggrieved and do not recognise decisions reached at Thursday’s National Executive Committee meeting, the Kebbi State Governor said due process was followed in convening the meeting and decisions taken were legal.

“The media says a lot of things but the President is very clear that he received due legal advice on this matter and remember before the 2019 primaries, the President demonstrated to all Nigerians that he will never sacrifice due process for expediency.

“Even when it was convenient to extend the tenure of then executives so that we don’t have a convention and primaries at the same time, the President said No! no matter how tough it is, we will do the correct legal thing,” he said.

The Governor stressed that President Buhari will never do anything that goes against the provisions of the party’s constitution and that of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Bagudu was accompanied on the visit by Governors Kayode Fayemi, of Ekiti, Abubakar Bello of Niger, and Yahaya Bello of Kogi States.
