The incumbent Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai has emerged as the consensus candidate for the governorship seat of Kaduna State.
Declaring him winner, the All Progressives Congress, APC, Committee Chairman of the Kaduna gubernatorial primary elections, Honourable Mathew Iduoriyekemwen, said a total of 2447 votes were cast while 33 votes were invalid.
According to the Chairman: “There were about 3782 delegates across the 23 LGAs of Kaduna States who participated in the elections.”
In his acceptance speech at the event, Governor El-Rufai said he accepted the mandate to promote equal opportunity in the state.
”I accept this nomination as your vote of confidence to continue the work of delivering progressive outcomes for our people.”
According to him: “We have travelled far together in the service of our people, but the journey is still long. Since July 2013, we have worked together with many of you here to build the Kaduna APC as a new party that is committed to improving the life changes of our people.”
The APC’s main opposition, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has held gubernatorial primary elections in Kaduna State.
Reports indicate that, ahead of the primary elections, one of the PDP’s prominent aspirants, Sani Bello stepped down for Honourable Isa Ashiru, who appeared to be the preferred choice of many delegates.
After the election started, another aspirant in the PDP, Yakubu Sa’ad, also stepped down but did not mention who he was stepping down for.
