A faction of the All Progressive Congress, APC, led by Mr. Etim John has obtained an injunction on a proposed congress to be conducted in Cross River State, southern Nigeria.

The proposed congress, billed for Wednesday, would be conducted by the APC National Working Committee to elect another Chairman for the party in the State.

The two factions of the State chapter of the party had held parallel congresses where Etim John and Mathew Achigbe emerge as Chairman with the later obtaining an earlier injunction against the activities of the former.

Also noteworthy is the fact that Cross River State delegates were barred from participating at the recent national convention of the party in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital city due to the earlier injunction obtained by Mathew Achigbe.

However, the National Working Committee, NWC, resolved prior to the recent injunction to organise a new State Congress for all previous and intending contestants.

Contemptuous Congress
It was based on this new development that the Etim John led faction obtained the recent injunction to stop the NWC from holding fresh congress in Cross River.

Francis Ekpenyong, who emerged the State Secretary of the party on the Etim John platform, during a press briefing insisted that proposed congress was contemptuous and unconstitutional.

”We have on a good note observed our brothers on the other divide, who think there is a faction in the APC when there is no faction and are trying to use the national secretariat to annul our congress.

“In response to that, we filed a Motion ex-parte, Originating Summons in High Court 14, Abuja and obtained an injunction against the congress, which was served on the national secretariat of the party. The court heard our motion for perpetual injunction, granted same and restrained the NWC, except the National Executive Council, NEC, from conducting congress in Cross River,” Ekpenyong said.

Nothing that the National Chairman of the APC, Adams Oshiomhole was yet to convene any NEC meeting, the Stalwart said; “this is not a labour union. Since Adams Oshiomhole came to power, he has never called one NEC meeting. Even if he wants to revisit  the issue, we are entitled to fair hearing and he has never invited us one day at least for right of fair hearing and there is yet no official letter to us that they have annulled that congress.”

Investigation
However, investigation by Voice of Nigeria revealed that fresh ward and local government congresses were recently held by APC in some areas.

The investigation further revealed that the NWC would go ahead to conduct fresh congress in Cross River on Wednesday at an undisclosed location and time.
