Nigeria’s governing Party, the All Progressives Congress, APC Gubernatorial aspirants have been getting the Nomination forms of Expression of Interest worth 22,500,000 million naira.

This is in order to beat the September 10th deadline set by the Party.

The friend of a governorship aspirant from Adamawa State, Dr. Mahmood Ahmed purchased the form for him from the APC National Secretariat in Abuja.

Dividends of Democracy
Dr. Ahmed said he is running in order to let the people of Adamawa State have a feel of what dividends of democracy mean.

“I don’t want to go into it for too much. It is no longer secret. Our own citizens  and those outside are the feelers of what is happening in the State.

“It is no longer news that the situation in my State informed the decision. My mission is to create a new lease of life for my people to feel what it means to actually have a feeling of the dividends of democracy” Ahmed said.

Direct Primary
The APC had resolved that all primaries ahead of the 2019 General Election should be conducted through direct primary but with an exception that stated that desire to conduct indirect primary should adopt the method through a simple majority vote of the state executives and should inform the party by writing to the National Executives.

Adamawa is one of the States that has adopted the indirect primary method.

In reaction to this development, Dr. Ahmed said he is ready to contest in any form of primary conducted.

” I am aware of it but I think this is for the leadership and the national working committee of the party to look at both sides that presentation were made as to which of the primaries to adopt. I as an aspirant, whichever way it goes, I am ready,” Ahmed said.

Also, another group from Taraba State, known as the New Taraba Agenda have acquired the APC gubernatorial form for a former commissioner in the state, Mr. Aliyu Umar.

Choice of Candidate
The Leader of the group and former federal lawmaker, Mr. Kabir Jalo said delegates from the 168 wards of the State had deliberated on the choice of governorship candidate for the APC before finally settling for Mr. Umar.

“We brought in representatives from the 168 wards to come together and endorse a candidate that can move the State forward. So what we have done is a complete different approach to what we used to have. Our candidate is the candidate of the people; we came together and asked him to run.

“So truly in our own case our candidate was pushed forward by the people and for the very first time we have a coalition which comprises of the 168 wards in all the local government with one person representing each of the ward to ask our principal to step forward to run for the office of the governor under the APC,” Mr Jalo explained.

While addressing the matter of unity of the APC chapter of Taraba State, Mr. Jalo said it was just mere disagreements that wouldn’t affect the success of APC in the forthcoming 2019 General Election.

He said: “The elite might be divided but we can tell you that the people who form the hub of the party are not divided. The division among the elites is inconsequential to our people.”

Another aspirant and a former Secretary to the Ebonyi State government Professor Ifeanyi Odoh purchased the APC gubernatorial form as well.

Professor Odoh said that because of his three years in government he knows how things could be done differently to help the people of Ebonyi State.
