Nigeria’s governing party the All Progressives Congress, APC says it will not be subjected to minority rule in the Senate.

The APC National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole stated this at a meeting held in Abuja between the party’s National Working Committee, Senators and House of Representatives Members elected on the platform of the APC.

Mr. Oshiomhole noted that there is nowhere in the world where the minority ruled over the majority in the legislature.

“If we have 56 Senators and they have 49, I insist that 49 Senators cannot preside over the affairs of a house which APC has 56 Senators,” Oshiomhole said.

He reiterated his call to the Senate President, Bukola Saraki to resign his position as the senate president following the Senate President’s defection from APC to Nigeria’s main opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

“Whether it is convenient for distinguished Senator Saraki or not the truth is that whether by morality or by law or conviction, Saraki can only avoid impeachment by stepping down for APC to take over the leadership of the Senate” he said.

He added that going to court to stop his impeachment as was being done by some persons, would be an exercise in futility, saying that the court could not save the situation.

The APC National Chairman further appreciated the remaining APC lawmakers for keeping faith with the party and promised that the APC would reward their loyalty.

Meanwhile, The APC Senate Majority leader, Senator Ahmed Lawan in his speech called on the presiding officers of the National Assembly to reconvene the legislators immediately.

Senator Lawan said failure to reconvene the National assembly immediately would lead to a shutdown of government.

He highlighted some of the pending bills that need urgent attention.

“We are insisting that the National Assembly reconvenes quickly so that we pass the budget request of Mr. President for the National Electoral Commission the INEC to start its preparation for 2019 in time.”

“We also need to pass the request for the federal government to loan from foreign countries which will be necessary for the funding of our capital budget.” Lawan said.

Also the APC Majority leader of the House of Representatives, Mr. Femi Gbajabiamila mirrored the Senate majority leader’s call for the House to be reconvened immediately.
