Army remains committed to ensuring violence free gubernatorial elections

This election must be free of violence and the Army remains totally committed to the Defence of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS) stated this during his address at a Meeting with Principal Staff Officers, General Officers Commanding, Commanders and Directors of the Nigerian Army at the Army Headquarters, Abuja.

The Army Chief congratulated the officers and men of the army for their role and professional conduct in the recently concluded Presidential and national assembly elections elections.

“I recognise that there were some areas of violent cases in some parts of the country and the Army will ensure that some of these errors are corrected. The Heroes of our democracy, are soldier who died in the course of their duty during elections and I have directed that their entitlement be paid fully,” said COAS

The Army Chief also stated that a committee has been constituted to look into cases of some of the personnel who may have been involved in any form of misconduct during the elections.

Buratai was formerly presented with a commendation Award at the occasion by the African Leadership Magazine Managing editor, Kingsley Okeke in recognition of the role of the Nigerian Army in the fight against insurgency.

COAS expressed his appreciation to the organisers of the award adding that the Nigerian Army will continue to do their best and play their role for democracy to thrive.
