Asaba 2018: South Africa, Nigeria tussle for leadership position

As the 2018 African Senior Athletics Championships draws to an end in Asaba, it’s quite obvious that continental giants South and Nigeria are locked down in a battle for supremacy.

At the end of proceedings on Day 3, South Africa leads Nigeria – only just.

The rainbow nation has amassed a haul of 10 gold, 7 silver and 5 bronze medals.

Nigeria closely follows with 10 gold, 3 silver and 3 bronze medals to place second.

East African powerhouse Kenya is third with 3 gold, 2 silver and 1 bronze medals.

So far 13 countries have appeared on the medals table, with Uganda propping the rear with a solitary bronze medal.
