Association advises tuber crop farmers on avoiding harvest loss

The Farmers Empowerment and Development Association of Nigerian (FEDAN) says the best time for tuber crop farmers to harvest their crops is now that the soil is wet to avoid them getting rotten.

The National President of FEDAN, Shola Adepomola, said on Wednesday in Lagos that this is the best time to harvest crops like cassava and yams.

He said “the constant rain will only affect some crops like tuber crops, especially yams and cassava because the ground is wet and it will be easy to harvest them now.

If they are not harvested now, the yams and cassava will begin to get rotten in the ground.

This will greatly affect the output of the farmers in that category of farming, therefore, let tuber crop farmers begin to plan harvesting their crops”.

Adepomola also said that while some farmers who needed the sun to dry their produce are being affected by the constant downpour, there would be bumper harvest, adding that the rain has been fairly distributed across the country because it was not too heavy and not too low.
