Bayelsa Floods: NEMA distributes working tools to victims


The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) on Saturday distributed working tools worth millions of naira to the victims of 2018 ocean surge, windstorm and flood disasters in Bayelsa.

Mr Victor Nwaubani, Head of Operation of the agency in Edo, told newsmen in Yenagoa after the distribution exercise that the items included 250 sewing machines and 200 grinding machines.

Nwaubani also said that 250 fishing nets and 140 hair dressing machines were also given to the victims.

“These are livelihood materials to help those that were affected by various disasters in Baylesa.

“There are victims in all the eight local governments areas because this include: ocean source, flood and windstorm disasters.

“This is part of Federal Government’s efforts to assistance and I urge the beneficiaries to make good use of the items,” he stated.

Dr Zedekiah Isu, Director-General, Bayelsa Emergency Management Agency (BSEMA) assured that the materials would get to the rightful hands.

“We so much appreciate the gesture from the Federal Government, and I believe it will go along in ameliorating the suffering of the people,” Isu said.

A beneficiary, Mrs Mary Dide, native of Norgbene community in Ekeremor Local Government Area said she was grateful for the assistance.

Dide, a tailor, expressed optimism that the items would her, with a promise to make good use of it.
