Boat mishap claims three lives in Niger State

A father and his two children have lost their lives in a boat accident near Wuya community in Mokwa local government area of Niger state in North Central Nigeria on Friday.

Report available to Voice of Nigeria shows that Man Malam Yahaya Hamza and his two children were returning to their community in Edati local government area from part of Mokwa Council when their boat capsized in a river in Wuya Community along Bida-Mokwa road in Niger state.

The incident which happened on Friday in the afternoon was attributed to flood wave as a result of heavy downpour which occurred in the early hours of Friday.

According to a resident of the area Mallam Abdullahi Na-Allah,The river was a bit turbulent because of flood water which always find their way through various channels .

” We saw them battling to regain control but the current was much and there was no way for anybody to rescue them at that point”.

Mallam Na-Allah further said divers were only able to recover their corpses, which were since buried in Edati local government area on the day of the accident.

The Director General of the Niger state Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA), Alhaji Ahmed Ibrahim Inga said the Agency received the report of the deadly accident on Friday.

He confirmed the death of the three people which he described as unfortunate and a recurring issue during raining season.
