Nigeria’s quest at clinching the gold medal in the women’s 100 metres event of the 2018 CAA competition holding in Asaba received a boost as Joy Udo-Gabriel won the women’s 100 metres semi-finals heat 2 to qualify for the final.

She finished ahead of the running pack with a time of 11.68 seconds, shoving aside Ghana’s Janet Amponsah who initially appeared set to win the race.

Nigeria’s hopes of winning the 100 metres final now rests on Udo-Gabriel, following the sudden withdrawal of Blessing Okagbare from the race late on Wednesday.

But she will have her hands full as Ivorien Ta Lou is expected to make the 100 metres final highly explosive.
