The Cabinet during its meeting in Abuja on Wednesday.

The Federal Executive Council has approved the sum of 1.7 billion Naira for the construction of jetty at Bonny Island in Rivers State.

Minister of State for Transportation, Gbemisola Saraki disclosed this on Wednesday while briefing State House Correspondents at the end of this week’s cabinet meeting in Abuja.

Saraki said the Jetty was to replace an old one that had since collapsed, stressing that this will enhance the movement of pilots and tug boats in the area.

“Some years ago, we had a jetty at the Bonny Island but it collapsed and now creating huge problem for tug boats and pilotage. The pilot land is in Bonny so boats used to come from Port Harcourt to pick up the pilots.

“Today, the Council granted approval in favour of Messrs Due Projects Ltd for N1.7 billion and it will be completed in 15 months,” she said.

The Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo presided over the meeting.
