Late Rev. Father David Tanko has been laid to rest at the Catholic Priests Cemetery, our Lady Queen of Peace Cathedral Jalingo Diocese, Taraba State.
Father Tanko was killed and burnt in Tostee village Takum Area Council of the State on 28 August, 2019 by suspected armed militia.
In a funeral sermon, the Catholic Bishop of Jalingo Diocese, Charles Hamawa said; “the death of Father David should signal the end of the perennial crisis between the Tivs/Jukuns.’’
The Bishop admonished Christians to learn how to forgive one another saying the church is praying for the conversion of those who killed Father Tanko.
He called for the intervention of all to find lasting solution to the perennial crisis between the Tivs/ Jukuns as well as other parts of the country.
The Taraba State Chairman Christian Association of Nigeria, Mr. Isaiah Magaji condemned the killing of Rev. Father David.
Mr Magaji called on relevant authorities to bring to book the proprietors of the heinous crime.
” It is sad that this happening now, we cannot continue this way…Our security agents must protect the lives of the people as they should,’’he stated.
Until his death Rev. Father Tanko was a priest at Saints Peter’s Parish Amadu Takum in Taraba State.
