Edinson Cavani has agreed to join Atletico Madrid on a three-year contract, according to reports in Italy. The 32-year-old looks likely to leave Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer at the end of the season.
Cavani has six months to run on his current deal with the Ligue 1 club, but can sign a pre-contract agreement with an overseas club from January 1.
Gianluca Di Marzio claims the striker has already reached an ‘understanding’ with Atletico to put pen to paper on a contract with the Spanish club.
They could consider signing him now, however, rather than in January as Atleti have struggled for goals this season with no player hitting double figures so far, and only Alvaro Morata with more than four goals to his name in all competitions.
Cavani is PSG’s all-time leading goalscorer with an incredible record of 196 strikes in 289 games; he surpassed previous record scorer Zlatan Ibrahimovic last year.
He joined the French side in 2013 from Napoli and has gone on to win the league five times.
The Uruguay international has made just 11 appearances in all competitions this season due to injury.
