Two wonder strikes from forward Edison Cavani helped Uruguay beat Portugal 2-1 and with that a place in the quarter finals of Russia 2018.

A beautiful interchange between Luis Suarez and Cavani saw the latter lift a wonderful cross for Cavani to nod past Portuguese keeper Rui Patricio on seven minutes.

Portuguese maestro Cristiano Ronaldo was completely marked out and posed no threat whats so ever.

In the second half, Portugal stepped up attacks leading to an equalizer.

Not from Ronaldo though.

Defender Pepe ghosted into space and rose to blast a header past a helpless Muslera on fifty-five minutes.

From that point it was a ding-dong affair until Bentancur took control and got Cavani on the left.

Cavani opened his body and side-footed powerfully into the right-hand side of the net on sixty-six minutes to seal Uruguay’s win.
