Premier league top club Chelsea has stepped up its interest in Uruguayan striker Edison Cavani.
This follows what analysts have described as an increasingly a ‘toothless attack’ that has seen the Stamford bridge Giants struggle for goals.
Coach Frank Lampard has not hidden his likeness for the 32-year-old Uruguayan.
Any official bid would include paying a loan fee as well as Cavani’s £360,000 a week wages.
“He’s a great player; I played against him and always loved his mentality and attitude, and his scoring record speaks for itself,” Lampard said.
An injury to Tammy Abraham late on in Tuesday’s 2-2 draw with Arsenal has accelerated the move for Cavani.
The England hitman limped through the end of the game at Stamford Bridge after crashing into the advertising hoardings and hurting his ankle.
Chelsea remain fourth on the premier league table.
