China’s Xinjiang Uygur region tops country’s cotton production

The cotton output of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region of china tops country’s production,it has exceeded 5 million tonnes, according to the National Bureau of Statistics.

The planting area of cotton in Xinjiang reached about 2.54 million hectares in 2019, accounting for 76 per cent of the country’s total production.

Xinjiang has ranked first in the country’s total cotton output, per unit output and planting area for 25 consecutive years, according to local authorities.

The production of cotton fields in northern Xinjiang which is more than 90 per cent has been mechanised, and the mechanisation rate of cotton harvesting is also increasing yearly, said the Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of Xinjiang.
