The Nigerian Civil Defence Corp says it has trained about 1,500 of its personnel as Agro Rangers.
They are deployed to provide security for agro Allied investments in effort to curtail cases of series of clashes among farmers and herders as well as incessant cattle rustling and kidnapping across the Country.
The Commandant General of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corp, Abdullahi Gana Muhammad said this when the Niger State Governor, Abubakar Sani Bello visited him in Abuja.
He said the Agro Rangers initiative by the agency has greatly reduced cases of incessant crises in affected areas.
The agro Rangers initiative is a special unit created under The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corp by the Nigerian Government, to adequately train and equip its personnel to protect the communities and agricultural investments against rustlers and related issues.
The Commandant General of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corp, equally appreciated the support of the Niger State government for allocating a land for a permanent office of the agency in the State.
“I want to use this opportunity to once again appreciate the Niger State Government for providing a land for the construction of the command’s headquarters in the state which has been completed awaiting inauguration,” the Commandant stated.
Reacting to the to the Commandant General of the Civil Defence Corp, Governor Bello restated to sustain the already established synergy with security agencies to enhance protection of lives and property in the State.
He promised his continual support and collaboration in improving on the already existing cordial relationship with the agencies.
“My greatest challenge used to be the issue of incessant farmers/herders clashes, banditry and cattle rustling which has reduced with the establishment of the 30,000 hectares grazing reserve in the state and deployment of Agro Rangers.
“We will continue to be proactive as well as explore every avenue to ensure safety of our people because they elected us to serve them. We will provide all the necessary logistical support to the Agro Rangers to enable them discharge their duties effectively,” Governor Bello added.
