Commercial fishing : Nigeria collaborates with Greek firm to train youths


In its bid to alleviate unemployment in the country, the Nigerial government is set to seal a strategic deal with Greek firm, Concept Amadeus Limited, to train unemployed Nigerian youths on commercial fishing, ship and vessel building.Honourable Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Festus Keyamo said during a meeting with a delegation of foreigners from Greece, facilitated by Concept Amadeus Limited.

He stated that as long as the terms of the agreement are acceptable, the government is ready to collaborate with the company on the project for the benefit of Nigerians

According to him, “The Nigerian government has to know in clear terms what the obligations of government entail, the categories of people to be trained and if the use of government’s skills acquisition centers would be required”,

The minister while pointing that the interest of the ministry on the project is the core mandate of skills acquisition, added that the best way to lift people out of poverty is to provide them with skills to make them entrepreneurs.

The Leader of the delegation, Prince Patrick Osobase said that the aim of the visit to the ministry was to seek cooperation on the project, aimed at training Nigerian youths to be entrepreneurs and businessmen.

Osobase said that the project intends to train the youths in commercial fishing, ship-building, vessel-construction, and investment in warehouses. Also stressing on the investment opportunity created by the government’s decision to keep its borders closed.

Senior Special Assistant to the President on Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Ita Enang, who lauded the President’s commitment to providing jobs, commended the company on its readiness to work with the Ministry to achieve its aims.
