Community constructs road worth over N30 million

A community development association in Lagos State has inaugurated a road worth over 30 million Naira for public use.

The 390 meters self actualized roads according to the New Dawn Community Development Association in Ikorodu area of Lagos, started about four years ago.

Speaking at the inauguration of the road, a member representing Ikorodu constituency at the Nigeria’s House of Representative, Honourable Babajimi Benson said the community has championed the course of developmental agenda of the State government and also key into his programs of action as the representative of the people at the National Assembly.

Babajimi Benson who was represented by his special legislative adviser, Mr Adebayo Oteju commended the effort by the residents of the community and throw it’s weight behind the noble idea.

“One of the things we look forward to in every community is to work together and agree for development. The new dawn have shown us when men comes together and make progress.

They came together through self effort that is less than four years and construct a road of state standard that is desireable when it comes to doing functional road, through personal commitments, it is a road worthy of emulation by every community and by other CDC’s in the State.”

He mentioned that his constituency would work with the community to further develop it for the betterment of the State.

State policies
The Lagos State Deputy Governor, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat noted that the move by the community aligned with the program and policies of the new government which tend to address dearth of bad roads across the State.

According to him “This is a very wonderful project by CDA which is line with the policies of the Lagos state government on public infrastructure and and partnership program that is being coordinated by the state Ministry of works. This is an idea, where corporate organisations and philanthrophists give back to the community where they reside.”

He explained that the state has been enjoying  similar gestures accross the state and it’s being applauded by the government.

The Director, Road maintenance and Rehabilitation of Lagos State Ministry of Works, Engr. Somide Ayodele represented the Deputy Governor at the event.

Great legacy
The CDA Chairman, Alhaji Abdulhakeem Salman thanked the people of the community for thier unflinching support towards completion of the project.

“A remarkable and historical event happening today will be a great history always, which should be kept in our archives as a great achievement. It is indeed a leagcy worthy emulation. The actualization of the project was jointly achieved by residents of this great community.” he said.

Salman who highlighted some of the achievement of the community which include provision of electricity poles, construction of drainage system, grading of roads among others, however solicit from government, provision of electricity transformer and construction of drainage and roads in the area.

Good gestures
The Vice Chairman of Ikorodu Local government, Mrs Folashade Oba also commended the gesture of the community.

“This is awesome and I’m impressed with what I have seen here. They live and invest in the community, rather than just waiting for the government, they are taking charge. We will definitely support them in thier subsequent projects, wherever they need our help from the local government.” she said.

Government’s involvement
Other dignitaries at the event lauded the initiative of the community and enjoined them to always involve the government for professional consultations in order to perform better in their subsequent projects.

The 390meters road situated at Bello Solebo Street, Opposite General hospital Ikorodu area of Lagos State, according to the community was constructed to the tune of (N31, 603, 967, 51) thirty-one million, six hundred and six thousand, nine hundred and sixty-seven naira, fifty-one Kobo.
