A consensus candidate from Nigeria’s governing party, the All Progressives Congress, APC in Abia state will guarantee the party’s victory in the state in the forthcoming 2019 General Election.
An Abia state gubernatorial aspirant, Mr Paul Ikonne of the APC stated this when he picked up his Expression of Interest and Nomination form from the Party’s National Secretariat in Abuja.
He added that Abia state may be one of the states that will go for a consensus candidate.
The issue of direct and indirect Primaries and also consensus continues to trend in the APC as states decide which of this method will be most suitable for them to choose their flag bearers for the General Election.
Mr. Ikonne said because of the some peculiar situations in Abia state, indirect primary or consensus will be the best option for the state.
“The party national leadership are very wise, but there are peculiarities, like in Abia, indirect primaries and consensus will definitely give us what we want.
“Stakeholders are yet to meet, we are still going to meet, and by the time we meet, we will come out with a blue print of the way forward,” Ikonne said.
He added that if given the APC ticket and elected as Abia next governor, he would bring in new ideas that would transform and develop the state, saying that he would bring value to its governance.
He further mentioned that he had the experience to govern Abia state.
“I have been in the party and I have worked for it and am still working for it.
“During the 2015 general elections, I organised the presidential rally in Abia which was successfully and adjudged the best, and am coming from Aba, the Eyinba city and by God’s grace age is on my side.
“I have served in government and I have good understanding of the way government functions and I have a blueprint on what to do to move Abia forward.
“Above all, I have the grace of God more than any other aspirant,” Ikonne said.
