Cooperation of stakeholders commendable – Enugu REC


The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Enugu State has applauded all stakeholders for their cooperation and commitment to the successful conduct of the Governorship and State Assembly Elections in the area.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in the state, Dr. Emeka Ononamadu, said that everything worked out “perfectly well’’ for the elections.

“The weather complied, the voters fully complied, the security complied, and performed superbly and even the political parties complied as well.

“The election in every sense to me is perfect, as everyone can see and attest to.

“The smooth, seamless conduct of the polls yesterday, Saturday, shows the extent of political maturity of the people of the state,’’ he said.

The REC assured the electorate in the state that INEC would ensure that their votes counted.

“We will quickly collate and announce the results as quickly as possible,’’ he assured.

A total of 352 candidates contested the governorship and state house of assembly elections in the state.

While 42 candidates participated in the governorship race, 310 candidates ran for the 24 state house of assembly seats.

All the 71 registered political parties with offices in the state fielded candidates for the state house of assembly election.
