The hearing of a case against prominent journalist Erick Kabendera has been postponed again, until 20 November 2019, pending the appointment of a new magistrate.

He is accused of money laundering, tax evasion and leading organised crime.

Magistrate Augustine Rwizile, who was to hear Mr Kabendera’s case, was recently appointed a judge of the High Court.

The case has been postponed several times.

In the past, prosecutors said investigations were not complete.

The journalist has previously denied wrongdoing but his lawyers have now initiated negotiations with prosecutors for a plea-bargain deal.

President John Magufuli has offered amnesty to those accused of economic crimes in exchange for admitting guilt and paying fines.
