Cross River reschedules council election

The Local Government elections earlier scheduled to hold on the 22nd of February 2020 in Cross River State, has been postponed to March 28, 2020.

A statement by the Chairman of the State Independent Electoral Commission, CROSIEC, Dr. Mike Ushie, indicated that the postponement was sequel to a consultative meeting with stakeholders.

Ushie stated that the election was rescheduled in line with the CROSIEC law 2004 and electoral Act 2010.

 “in line with the law and in keeping with the electoral act, notice is hereby given that the election into the Cross River State Local Government Councils shall hold on 28th March, 2020,” he said.

Clearance of Candidates
The statement further requested political parties to collect, fill and return relevant forms to facilitate the clearance of candidates not later than January 29, 2020.

Ushie further urged “all candidates to obtain nominations forms LGE 006B from the commission’s headquarters on payment of the stipulated fees and return same where obtained”.

The statement called on all stakeholders, political parties and the public to be acquainted with the new date, adding that  “the commission regrets any inconveniences that the postponement may have caused all”.

It could be recalled that in March 2017, the Cross River State Independent Electoral Commission postponed council elections after the expiration of the former elected officials on December 16, 2016.
