Daniel Zsori’s sensational goal for Debrecen against Ferencvaros has won the 2019 FIFA Puskas Award.
Ten goals were nominated, including strikes from Lionel Messi, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Fabio Quagliarella and Andros Townsend, before the list was reduced to three finalists.
They were Messi’s dink in March and fabulous efforts from River Plate’s Juan Fernando Quintero and Zsori of Debrecen.
An overhead kick winner in second-half stoppage time was always going to be up for nomination.
Daniel Zsori, 18, came on for Debrecen with nine minutes remaining in their match against league leaders Ferencvaros.
Debrecen were trailing 1-0 at the time but Daniel Tozser netted an equaliser shortly after Zsori’s arrival – and then the teenager did something incredible.
He climbed and made perfect contact with the ball, sending it beyond Ferencvaros’ goalkeeper before ripping off his shirt and celebrating in front of a hysterical home crowd
“Adam Bodi crossed the ball into the penalty box and I just thought: ‘Why not have a go?’” Zsori reflected, per FIFA’s website.
“I’d practised the move plenty of times in my training sessions and copied it from my idol Cristiano Ronaldo.
Should Daniel Zsori win the 2019 #Puskas Award? ?♂️
