Delta environmental agency set to ‘restore’ Warri City


Comrade Ovuozorie Macaulay, Director General, Environs Development Agency, Warri, Uwvie, says the agency must step on toes to sanitise and restore the glory of Warri and its environs.

Macaulay, who made the assertion at a news conference in Asaba, said the agency would need the support of all stakeholders to transform Warri and Effurun to become desired the dream cities.

According to him, the agency will need good funding to adequately transform the cities to become clean cities and investors delight.

He said he was familiar with the terrain and understood what it would take to make Warri and Effurun clean cities, “but this will cost good sum of money to do’’.

Macaulay, whose agency was inaugurated by Gov. Ifeanyi Okowa on Thursday, said the challenge before him was obvious, however, appealed to the people to support the agency by sustaining existing peace to enable it deliver on their mandate.

“I am not a strange mind in the field of pioneering and Warri is a familiar terrain and as a Deltan, I grew up in Warri.

“I am familiar with the sensitivity of the people of the area, the geography and the environment where we are to work.

“The people’s expectations will be met but first we must ensure that there is peace, so, I wish to use this opportunity to call on the people of the area to give my agency the necessary peace to carry out our functions.

“Again, because oil is the mainstay of the country’s economy; I want to also appeal to the youths of the Niger Delta to eliminate restiveness to enable the state get enough money to properly fund the agency.

“We are going to Warri with an open mind; Warri is full of kiosks, caravans and in making Warri a clean environment, we are going to step on toes and people must be ready to make that sacrifice for the twin cities of Warri and Effurun to become cities of our dream.”
