The Department for International Development (DFID) says it will collaborate with Kano State Government in tackling some environmental challenges in the state. The Deputy Team Leader, DFID Innovation Lead project, Mr. Bello Yakasai stated this when he paid a courtesy call on the state Commissioner for Environment, Dr. Kabiru Getso in his office .
Yakasai said that the department would collaborate in the areas of waste management, renewable energy and other innovative ideas that would make the state clean and attain a healthier environment.
According to him, the project will last for seven years and will operate in three Northern states of Kano, Jigawa and Kaduna respectively.
He said that the project also aimed at overcoming environmental challenges, increases the income of three million people by 25 per cent and create 100,000 job opportunities and increase internally generated revenue by 15 per cent.
Getso pledged the state government’s readiness to support the project in order to achieve the set objectives.
He assured the DFID of tireless and committed staff to work with the project in order to ensure success.
