Rice farmers have disclosed that early rains in rice-growing regions of the country have enhanced the probability of a good harvest.
The disclosure was recently made by the President of the Rice Farmers’ Association of Nigeria (RIFAN), Aminu Goronyo.
According to him, “We have experienced early rains in the central states and the North east and from all indications, we expect a bumper harvest, thanks to the favourable weather.”
Goronyo added that more farmers are growing the crop as a result of the assistance rendered by the government through a program championed by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to provide them with low-interest loans.
Following the flood incident that affected states like Jigawa, Kebbi, Anambra, and Kogi, the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Audu Ogbeh had earlier predicted a shortage of rice in the country if appropriate measures were not taken to replant.
