Cercle Brugge defender Elderson Echiejile is unfazed at his bench role in Nigeria’s 1-0 win over Poland, insisting that he is ready to give his best to the team whenever called upon to play.
Amkar Perm defender Brian Idowu was preferred to Echiejile in Friday’s 1-0 win over Poland in Wroclaw.
According to Complete Sports, Echiejile has now missed the Super Eagles’ last three games but looks set to return to action against Serbia on Tuesday in London.
“Whenever I get called upon, I am always ready to give my best,” the AS Monaco player, on-loan at Belgian second division side Cercle Brugge, said.
“I’m not worried at being on the bench for a friendly. The coach decides who plays in games and friendlies are meant to try out different options but when I’m called upon I always give my best.“
“The Serbia game is here and I believe I will get a chance.”
Echiejile added that the Serbian team will be more combative than the Polish side that suffered a 1-0 defeat to Nigeria.
“It’s going to be a big battle against Serbia,” he said.
“They are a very robust side. The defeat to Morocco in their last game will make the game tougher because they will be desperate to avoid another defeat to an African team.
“They have good players who are capable of changing the course of the game. So we have to be very smart as well.”
