The Ilorin Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested over fifty suspected internet fraudsters within seven months of operation in the state.
The Zonal Chairman of the Commission, Mr Isyaku Sharu stated this at the second news briefing on EFFC/FBI collaboration in the fight against internet fraud and cybercrime, held at the Ilorin Zonal Office.
Mr Sharu said the Commission had secured conviction of twenty-five offenders and got forfeiture of the suspects’ cars and money running into several millions of naira to the federal government.
According to him, the Zonal Office also traced four properties linked to some of the suspects located in Ado Ekiti, Ekiti state ranging from super market to plaza valued at about one billion naira.
The Ilorin Zonal Chairman said the federal government’s determination to stamp out corruption and cybercrime related offences had gone beyond rhetoric in the country.
