EFCC saves Kwara Government about ₦10bn

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC Ilorin Zonal Office says it has saved Kwara state Government about ten billion naira when the past administration received FAAC, JAAC tax refund from federal government between 24th and 29th of May, 2019.

The Head of Ilorin Zonal Office of the commission, Mr. Isyaku Sharu, disclosed this on Tuesday at a news conference in Ilorin the Kwara state capital.

Mr Sharu also stated that the commission is investigating over fifteen properties in choice areas within Ilorin metropolis, ranging from hotels, filling stations, and residential accommodation and microfinance houses.

While revealing the success recorded by the agency, he revealed  that the commission has charged over 29 cases to both federal and the state High Courts, and had secured  fifteen convictions.

According to him, the commission had recovered over fifty million naira since assumption of office to the victims of fraud on bond, as he promised to extend the activities of the agency to neighbouring states including Kogi and Ekiti.

Misappropriation of Funds
Mr. Sharu added that the commission is currently investigating some politicians and few government officials in Kwara who have allegedly misappropriated the state government fund while in office.

According to him, the alleged owners of some properties being investigated by the commission are  Civil servants  whose monthly  salaries are  not more than ninety thousand naira .
