The Emir of Kano Alhaji Muhammad Sanusi II has urged Muslims to use the lessons of love and peace learnt during the Ramadan to reflect on whatever the they do going forward.
Speaking shortly after the Eid El fitr sermon held at the Kofar Mata Eid prayer ground the Emir said no society can develop without peace and love because are the foundation to unity and coexistence in a multi ethnic and religious society like Nigeria.
He used the opportunity to call on the Muslims to be their brother’s keeper as well as people of different religion.
“I urge you to use the occasion of the Eid El fitr to extend hands of friend ship to our neighbors who are not of the same religious faith.”
Let’s stay together as Nigerians and work towards her socio economic prosperity and overall development for the betterment of all,” Sanusi emphasised.
The Emir also called on government at all levels to take appropriate measures to address the educational backwardness facing the people of Northern Nigeria as well as curb the menace of drug abuse that has become a canker worm in the society.
Sanusi observed that the North has been left behind educationally resulting to rise in social vices which must become a source of concerned to its leaders.
“it is high time the Northerners should wake up from their slumber and critically reflect on the back ward role they are occupying making others to look down on them
“I believe that it is this same social phenomena that spur our teeming youths to ignorantly be on hard drugs leading thousands of them to abandon the vigorous pursuit of their academic agenda to waywardness.
” If the Northerners really want to do things differently we must do away with idleness and remain focus in our drive to attain self actualization or else remain in perpetual poverty of the mind which is more dangerous than that of the pocket,” the Emir argued.
The emir also called the government and wealthy individuals to create avenues for food security for the poor by providing food and opportunities to be employed especially in the Agricultural sector.
He commended the Federal government for the ban on codeine which has grossly affected the lives many Nigerians especially youths in the north.
After the Prayer at the Mosque and Sermon, a mini Dubar was held to mark the Eid el Fitr `celebration.
