Enyimba Football club of Aba has won their first fixture of the 2019 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) Super Six at the Agege Stadium, Lagos.

The Elephants beat their opponents, Enugu Rangers 1-nil when Joseph Osadiaye found the back of the net in less than seven minutes from the restart of the game.

The Elephants dominated proceedings throughout the first half, and their effort was rewarded when Osadiaye opened the score line following a goalless first half where both sides failed to have a clear cut chance on goal.

The oriental derby was expected to be a tough one as coaches of both teams, Rangers’ Gbenga Ogunbote and Enyimba’s Usman Abdallah had expressed confidence of claiming maximum points in their opening game.

However, it was Abdallah who earned the bragging rights after he carted all three points ahead of his second game against Kano Pillars on Thursday.

Commending his boys after the game, coach Abdallah said the victory was a well deserved one as they came prepared for all points.

According to Abdallah, “we are not surprised at the result because we came prepared and hope to be victorious in every game in the competition. Having finished with the Rangers game, we look forward to doing same against Kano Pillars on Thursday. That game will be a tough one just as the one we have won, but we hope to devise a method of edging our opponents as usual. So I commend my boys. I have told them to do everything that will take them to the CAF competition next season, and l believe they will do exactly that.”

He praises Osadiaye, saying “ he a special player who plays strictly to instruction and a player who works hard on a day his teammates finds it difficult to score .”

The NPFL Super Six competition is being organised by the League Management Company to wrap off the league for this term.

Also, the competition will determine who takes the two Champions League and Confederation Cup spots from the Nigerian league.

There will be three games each day, with Akwa United, FC IfeanyiUbah, Lobi Stars and Kano Pillars competing for a spot in the continental showpiece.

The round robin competition which will be played at the same Stadium will end on the 12th of June, 2019.
