EPL- VAR steals the show

VAR was at the centre of attention once again in the Premier League with a number of matches

Tottenham’s miserable season continued as they we held to a 1-1 draw by bottom of the table Watford however, it could have been much worse for Mauricio Pochettino’s men.

After Abdoulaye Doucoure had given the Hornets a shock early lead, Quique Sánchez Flores side thought they were about to hang on for their first win of the season.

That was until Dele Alli’s 86th minute equaliser which appeared to come off his arm was ruled legal by the video referees.

Confusion reigned at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium as the big screen originally flashed up that the goal was disallowed.

Watford was also earlier denied a penalty when VAR decided Jan Vertonghen committed no offence when Gerard Deulofeu was felled in the penalty area.

On an emotional afternoon at the King Power Stadium, goals from Jamie Vardy and Youri Tielemans helped Leicester City fight back from a goal down to beat Burnley after Chris Wood had given the Clarets the lead.

Wood was unfortunately the fall guy for the visitors when VAR ruled he had committed a foul when Jonny Evans’ own goal seemed to level the scores.

Victory for the Foxes came on a day when they paid tribute to Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha a year on from the tragic death of the club’s chairman in a helicopter crash.

Raul Jimenez had two goals denied by VAR in Wolves 1-1 draw with Southampton but did score the penalty to cancel out Danny Ings’ opener for the Saints.

Frank Lampard and Chelsea continued their impressive start to the season with a 1-0 win over Newcastle courtesy of Marcos Alonso’s second half goal.

Jack Grealish and a last minute winner from Matt Targett helped Aston Villa came from behind to beat ten-man Brighton after Adam Webster had given the Seagulls the lead but lost Aaron Mooy to two first half yellow cards.

Bournemouth and Norwich played out a 0-0 draw at the Vitality stadium.
