The Green Network Initiative Forum in Jigawa state, Northern Nigeria says it will plant millions of assorted tree seedlings to assist in controlling erosion and desert encroachment in the state.
The Coordinator of the Forum, Mr Suleiman Tijjani, said that the gesture was part of the forum’s drive to complement the state and federal governments’ efforts to tackle desert encroachment and erosion.
According to him, the seedlings will be planted at governmental institutions and other deserving areas across the 27 local government areas of the state.
“Every year, we do tree planting campaigns and this year’s campaign will surpass the previous ones.
“They will be planted in governmental institutions such as public schools, dispensaries and other agencies.
“They will also be given to interested individuals to plant around their houses, farmlands and other deserving places,” the Coordinator explained
