Super Eagles midfielder, Oghenekaro Etebo, completed his loan switch to Getafe from English Championship side, Stoke City, for the rest of the 2019-2020 season, and the club’s Sporting Director, Angel Gonzalez, has explained the reason the La liga side signed Nigeria international, saying the midfielder met the club’s profile.
Etebo was officially unveiled on Thursday, sitting alongside Gonzalez to respond to questions from journalists.
The 24-year-old saw his appearance under The Potters’ new manager, Michael O’Neill, who replaced former boss, Nathan Jones, in November 2019, limited due to injuries and ill-health and made he only 11 appearances for the Championship side in all competitions.
And speaking on the club’s decision to seal the loan move despite his limited time in England, Gonzalez says Etebo’s attributes will big a big asset to the team.
“Etebo meets the profile, he is strong, fast, complements well with the players we have to give that little point more than we need,” Gonzalez said during Etebo’s unveiling on Thursday.
Getafe lost their first game of the New Year 3-0 at home to Real Madrid, completing a back-to-back defeat in the La Liga.
They are currently seventh in the La Liga table on 30 points from 19 games, a point away from the Europa League qualification spot.
