International Donor Agency, European Union(EU) has donated ICT equipment and furniture worth millions of naira to the Central Pharmaceutical Center, Awka.
Receiving the items on behalf of the Facility, the Anambra State Commissioner for Health, Dr Vincent Okpala appreciated the EU for donating the items for establishment of Data Operation Centres in the State.
While commending EU and the implementing partner, ‘WHO for the wonderful Health System Strengthening (HSS) initiative , he noted that the equipment will help solidify the state healthcare system.
‘‘The HSS is a very wonderful one, it is a strong initiative that will help to solidify our healthcare system.
‘‘It provides for strengthening the basic building blocks of a functional healthcare service system across the state.
‘‘We understand that medical tourism is a big goal set by the government of Gov. Willie Obiano and to achieve this we must have a functional health system.
‘‘It is not just building the infrastructure but also building the structure that will help make the system operational and functional,” he said.
Dr Okpala assured them that the ministry would ensure that the items were judiciously used, so as to make sure they serve the desired purpose.
‘‘We are going to make sure that Disease Surveillance Officers, Monitoring and evaluation Officers are monitored, also they utilize these items well because Data is very important.
‘ ‘They use to say that the three pyramids of disease are ignorance,poverty and disease but I must add the fourth, Data blindness.
‘ ‘ With what E U has given us today, they have helped us to kill our data blindness.
‘‘This is a wonderful event and we are very grateful for partnering with EU,” the commissioner noted.
Presenting the items to the Commissioner, State WHO Coordinator, Dr Chukwumuanya Igboekwu, said that WHO is transferring the items to the government for furtherance of strengthening the healthcare system.
’’The items were donated by WHO, with the funding support from EU under the Health System Strengthening project that the EU and WHO are supporting in Anambra state.
He commended Gov. Obiano for creating enabling environment in the health sector and urged him to maintain the standard.
The Programme Manager,WHO-EU Health System Management Anambra, Mr Ndubuisi Oji maintained that the items donated would enhance data reporting in the state.
Some of the Items donated were office tables, chairs, steel cabinet and Laptops.
